The next edition of Brisbane Blacks Monthly has been released and it is available via a number of community organisations across Brisbane. You can also call into kuril dhagun at State Library of Queensland to pick up your copy! Just head to our community hub area and you will find a copy waiting for you!
In this months edition, there is an overview of the recent weekend celebrations acknowledging the 30th anniversary of the 1982 Commonwealth Games Protests.
‘ …The commemorative celebrations kicked off at midday on October 5, with hundreds marching from the Roma Street amphitheatre, across Victoria Bridge, and then home to South Brisbane’s Musgrave park.
Veterans from the ’82 Protests led the march, including Bob Weatherall (Gamilaraay), Tiga Bayles ( Birri Gubba), Gracelyn Smallwood (Birri Gubba), Les Malezer (Gubbi Gubbi & Butchulla), Wayne Wharton (Kooma) and Pat Leavy (Kooma).
In a show of international support, Maori activist and parliamentarian Hone Harawira flew over from New Zealand to reunite with those whom he fought alongside in 1982…’
