On Sunday I was fortunate and extremely proud to join a team of friends to participate in the Sunshine Coast Marathon 2014. The All Stars team was lead by popular author, presenter, social commentator and Indigenous Literacy Foundation Ambassador Anita Heiss. Anita and teammates Kylie and Louisa completed an amazing 21.1km (half marathon) while my pocket rocket side-kick Jasmyn and I completed a 10km run. It was an extremely beautiful day and we were blessed with cloudless skies without sky high temperatures.
The day was full of fun and excitement but the real success came in the funds raised by the team. The All Stars raised the most money than anyone in the Sunshine Coast marathon. To date there has been $10,455.25 of generous donations (130 people donated an average of $80) which goes towards our selected charity – The Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
kuril dhagun has always been a supporter of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation who provide books to the most disadvantaged children in the country and other important literacy and learning initiatives for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The funds raised from the All Stars is the equivalent of approximately 3000 books. Congratulations to Anita and teammates for their successes! Special thanks to The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) for sponsoring the team!
