Artist Cheryl Creed had some special visitors yesterday. I sent an art courier to her house in Cairns to pick up 24 portrait paintings to travel all the way to kuril dhagun, roughly 1700kms away, in Brisbane.
Cheryl’s portraits are being featured in our next major exhibition A Thousand Words which opens on Saturday 6 December. A Thousand Words showcases portraits by Indigenous artists Cheryl Creed and Nickeema Williams who address complex contemporary issues of the kaleidoscope of Queensland Indigenous identity through their images of friends, family, community members and Elders.
I’m really looking forward to receiving the paintings on Monday and seeing them in the flesh for the first time.
Watch this space for sneak peeks!
A Thousand Words will run from 6 Dec 2014 until 17 May 2015 in kuril dhagun, level 1, SLQ.
