This real estate map for 1925 is advertising allotments of land for sale at the Rainworth Estate in the Brisbane suburb of Bardon (listed as Paddington on the map). Publicity stated – “The property is convenient to Toowong and Rosalie trams, and the roads are well formed. Electric light and water are available. Splendid views”.
The Rainworth Estate covered parts of Boundary Road, Runic Street, Vimy Street, Rouen Road, Birdwood Terrace and Nestor Street.
A public auction was held at the site on November 21, 1925. The Brisbane Telegraph newspaper reported that there was a “large attendance” at the auction and “bidding was keen”. Fifty-four of the 59 allotment offered were sold, ranging in price between £10 to £112 ($767 to $8,587 today), with a grand total of £2,200 of sales ($168,000 today) for the auction.
