A public auction was held at the site on the afternoon of March 16, 1904 with approximately 150 people attending. Of the 206 allotments for sale, 85 were sold on the day for grand total of £1,742 ($290,000 today). After 30 minutes of bidding a heavy downpour dampened the remainder of the proceedings.
