This real estate map from 1889 advertises 275 allotments of land for sale at Stanley Street Extended Estate, located today in the Brisbane suburb of Carina. The allotments were situated on Adelaide Street, Queen Street (now Orana Street), Short Street (now Binda Street), Stanley Street East (now Stanley Road) and Cleveland Road (Old Cleveland Road).
Prior to the sale extensive publicity was published in Brisbane newspapers.
“This estate is one unbroken continuous beautiful grand slope from one end to the other, there not being as much as one bad allotment in the whole of the subdivision. This scenery is all that could be desired, while the drive from the city, which occupies the space of about 20 minutes, is very cheerful, passing through the already thickly settled parts of the town of South Brisbane…” (Brisbane Courier, May 11, 1889)
A public auction was held at the ground on the afternoon of May 11, 1889. The results of the sale were published in the Brisbane Courier newspaper.
“Messrs James R. Dickson and Company report having held a fairly satisfactory sale of the Stanley Street Extended Estate on the ground, on Saturday, at an average of £84 per acre.” (Brisbane Courier, May 13, 1889)
