If Children’s Book Week isn’t big enough, this week is also Speech Pathology Week. The theme is Communication Access: Everyone gets the message! which has close links to First 5 Forever where libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres across Queensland are working with families to enhance young children 0-5’s communication and early literacy skills.
Libraries are engaged in a range of in library and outreach activities and are spreading the talk, play, sing and read message. State Library of Queensland (to the best of our knowledge) is the first library in Australia to have a qualified consultant Speech Pathologist on staff. Kylie Webb is part of the First 5 Forever team working with libraries across Queensland to help spread the communication and early literacy message.
