Behind the scenes of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games at City of Gold Coast Libraries

City of Gold Coast Libraries presents 2018 Inside Scoop – seven exclusive events taking the community behind the scenes of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, bringing them the inside scoop from the people in the know.

It’s a unique chance to get the lowdown on the city’s preparations to host its biggest ever international event – and Australia’s biggest since the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

2018 Inside Scoop will bring a wealth of behind the scenes insight into the operations of GC2018 straight from the key people organising the Games and academics looking at the impacts on the city. From the athletes’ preparations, to what they can expect at the Games Village, to building the venues and managing the world’s media, find out how the Games will run, and its long-term benefits for our city.

The first event was held on Wednesday 4 October 2017 and went behind the scenes of the Commonwealth Games Village. The numbers are staggering – 6,600 athletes and officials will be staying in 1,170 apartments and 82 townhouses. Every day, 3,300 bedrooms will be cleaned, 3,400 pillow cases and 7,000 towels changed and up to 27,000 meals will be served. The Village Operations team is responsible for the planning and operations of the GC2018 village site in Southport, as well as the regional villages in Cairns and Townsville.

The 2018 Inside Scoop series brings new members into libraries and connects the community with this city changing event. Six more Scoops are planned from now until March 2018 covering everything aspect of Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. More information and booking details can be found here.

The 2018 Inside Scoop series is supported by Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation and Griffith University.
