Cleveland Christmas tree lighting a shining success

Loads of smiles and excitement greeted the Redland Libraries First 5 Forever team on Friday 1 December when local community celebrated the annual Christmas tree lighting in Cleveland’s Library Square. The First 5 Forever sponsored event included a performance by local children’s theatre group “Rock it”, Christmas craft activities, a Santa letter writing station and a much anticipated visit by Santa and his live reindeer just before the official lighting. Our library welcomed a massive 1,960 people who joined in our First 5 activities from 4 – 7pm.

Library staff were kept busy assisting kids (and some parents!) making reindeer antlers, posting letters to Santa and providing Christmas stories for families to read together. Following the “Rock it” performance and a sing-a-long of Christmas songs, Redland City Mayor Karen Williams lead the official proceeding and the countdown for the lighting of the Christmas tree. All-in-all it was a fantastic event, bringing families together at the Cleveland Library to celebrate the start of the festive season.
