Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council launched its ‘Past’ event, reflecting on the past 100 years on Friday, 9 March 2018 with a community BBQ and ‘open mic’ session. The official launch commenced on Saturday, 10 March 2018 and was well attended by community and dignitaries.
An Elders yarning circle, traditional dancers, and the official opening of the Historical Exhibition were some of the highlights of the day.
The Exhibition was developed with assistance from Queensland Museum, North Queensland and will be on display until December 2018.
The State Library of Queensland (SLQ) is also collaborating with Palm Island Aboriginal Council to celebrate the anniversary and showcase the history of Palm Island with an Exhibition to be held at kuril dhagun, South Bank in September 2018.
