It’s on again! Australian Reading Hour is on Thursday 20 September 2018 and Australians across the country are encouraged to pick up a book and read for one hour. Read on your own or with children.
The Reading Hour is intended to encourage young, lapsed and committed readers alike to escape, relax, learn and experience the wonderful world of books
There are so many benefits to reading including helping children form their identity and setting them up for success in the future. In adults, reading has been shown to reduce stress by 68%, even more than listening to music, going for a walk, or having a cup of tea!
To help you promote your Australian Reading Hour event, and assist in bringing more readers to your library, Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC), school, café, bookstore or workplace to participate in Australian Reading Hour, organisers have had commitment from over 160 authors Australia-wide who would love to attend to support the cause. Simply email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in hosting one of these wonderful authors to be matched with an author from your area.
There are plenty of resources to help promote the event in your library or IKC including A4 Take The Time posters, Australian Reading Hour logos, banners, shelf talkers, cover images for social media and more as well as an Event Planning document with loads of event activity ideas!
Register now for free and get your community involved in the Australian Reading Hour this September. Happy reading!
