This week is Speech Pathology Week, a week where we celebrate communication access for all Australians. First 5 Forever aims to provide strong early literacy foundations for all Queensland children aged 0-5 years and to do this, strong communication foundations are needed.
Realising our potential, a vision for Queensland public libraries highlights libraries as being deeply local, providing access to information. One information resource that has been recently developed by Speech Pathology Australia is the Communication Milestones posters. These free posters provide families and those working with young children access to information about communication development in the first 5 years. Whilst it is not the libraries role to provide advice around communication development, it’s great for families to be informed, so these information posters can be made available in your library space and the information shared with families.
If you haven’t already, get to know your local health services and find out where families can go in your community if they have concerns about their child’s communication development.
These posters are freely available and can be downloaded straight from the website. There is an A4 poster for each age from 18 months, including 2 years, 3 years, 4 years and 5 years with an A3 poster encompassing all of the information together. All posters can be accessed here.
Happy Speech Pathology week.
