This week, CityLibraries Townsville hosted a special visit with Hon Leeanne Enoch MP, Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, Minister for Science and Minister for the Arts.

Staff provided a tour of the library prior to the Minister joining in an afternoon of Christmas stories and rhymes with children from Amaroo Childcare Centre and local families. It was a pleasure to have the Minister participate in a First 5 Forever storytime and spend time speaking with parents about the importance of our early years literacy programs at CityLibraries Townsville.

The Minister modelled our First 5 Forever key messages through talking, playing and sharing creative ideas with the children through our play based response activity which included making and wrapping presents and Christmas cards.

First 5 Forever aims to provide strong early literacy foundations and life-long learning capabilities for all Queensland children 0-5 years, by directly supporting parents and primary caregivers as their child’s first and most important educator. For more information visit the website
