Dive into Open Data – Statistics from public libraries

Are you interested in library trends over time? Dive into the last eight years of Queensland public libraries statistics, now available as open data on the Queensland Government Data Portal.

Take advantage of the breadth of data over time to highlight achievements, identify patterns and compare services with other public libraries.

  • Analyse the changing size of digital collections against use of these collections
  • Explore how different opening hours compare to physical visits or reference enquiries
  • See if availability of Wi-Fi or the number of public events, collection items or bookable spaces correlates to increased membership.

These statistics were originally published in the Queensland Public Libraries Statistical Bulletin. This open dataset provides clean, structured CSV files that can be easily downloaded for comparison and visualisation. The data is compiled from 2010/2011 to 2017/2018 and includes annual statistics on Council level expenditure, collections, usage, membership, events, and services; and Branch level facilities, opening hours, and services.

The State Library of Queensland has released a number of datasets as part of our open data strategy. Learn more about open data and State Library’s commitment to support open access to information at https://www.slq.qld.gov.au/get-involved/open-data.
