Queensland Seniors Week is just around the corner, falling this year on 17-25 August. The week celebrates all things ‘senior’, and seeks to activate community awareness on issues around aging across the board, including seniors of indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Seniors Week provides opportunities for the breaking down of social isolation and the fostering of inter-generational connection, through its varied program of community events, which aim to harness the spirit of sharing and learning. The week is only made possible by the support and efforts of many event organisers, partners in communities like yours, offering the chance of new experiences and discovery of new services and support.
Queensland Senior’s Week is coordinated by Council of the Aging (COTA) on behalf of the Queensland Government and receives funding to collaboratively plan, run and subsidise Seniors Week events and activities. Community libraries already often have a special place in the hearts of our seniors communities, so why not hold a Seniors Week event at your branch?
Event registrations re now open at https://www.qldseniorsweek.org.au/
By sharing the unique experiences that your library has to offer, you can contribute to creating a truly great Seniors Week in 2019.
