What’s cooking at Mossman Library?

Grub’s up in the children’s area at Mossman Library in far north Queensland!

Thanks to a recent State Library of Queensland Realising Our Potential Micro Grant, the library purchased a new kitchen set and barbecue complete with utensils, saucepans and pretend toy food.

Other equipment purchased included a wooden doll house and work bench. The equipment has far been a hit with the local community. Cooks of all ages having been putting on an apron and donning a chef’s hat to cook up a storm.

So far children have used the toys for role-play, learning, co-operation and sharing, and communicating with peers and carers.

Library staff are thrilled to see the equipment being used so imaginatively and creatively. The toys provide an opportunity for play and engagement throughout the day. Parents are saying it’s hard to get the kids to leave, they love it so much.
