Professional Development Opportunities

The 2019 First 5 Forever professional development strategy builds on the strong foundations established over the past four years and has been revised to provide an offer that is reflective of the new business as usual delivery model for First 5 Forever.

Based on feedback from council staff, professional development available now includes an increased range of range of face to face workshops and new online opportunities to support libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKCs) across Queensland.

The sessions available actively support Realising our potential: A vision for Queensland Public Libraries by creating professional development opportunities that contribute to optimising deeply local outcomes, support the creation of sustainable future focussed workforces, and empowering Public Library staff to confidently extend their reach through advocacy in their communities.

New in 2019: Zoom Meetings State Library is now using Zoom software to enable interactive meetings facilitated by staff from the Young People and Families team. These meetings are opportunities for “virtual” PD sessions to be held across regions, council branches and interested groups statewide.

The first regional Zoom meeting was hosted by North Burnett with 16 participants across 6 sites. The one hour teleconference style meeting provided an overview of the Business as Usual approach to First 5 Forever programming in libraries and the importance of early literacy as everybody’s business.

If you’re interested in hosting a similar Zoom meeting please contact the team to discuss topics and times.

2019 Schedule A combination of regional, online, and Brisbane based opportunities will be available throughout the rest of 2019. As sessions are released, all details will be updated on the PLConnect Training Calendar
