Engaging families and children through STEAM Storytime

Children playing with Lego at Fun Palace 2019

STEAM Storytime Webinar: Thursday, 30 January 2020, 1-2pm

All library staff are welcome to join this STEAM and Storytime session (previously scheduled 5 December 2019) to explore ways to link STEAM and literacy through active participation, ways of thinking, and play in early childhood.

We will explore why STEAM skills are important for preparing young children for the future. We will also look at ideas for activities and experiences you can use to engage children and their families in library, community and home environments.

In this webinar you will learn about:
• What STEAM is in early childhood
• How STEAM prepares children with future-focused skills
• Identifying STEAM ideas for using play-based resources and everyday objects around home
• Using elements of play to promote STEAM
• How to create a STEAM Storytime

World Science Festival is 26 – 29 March 2020 in Brisbane, and Regional Street Science has a program spread out through the year across Queensland. This is an opportunity to hold an event at your library. Information from this webinar may inspire ideas for an event, and to increase understanding, knowledge and capacity to program, plan and deliver STEAM Story time for library staff working with children 0-5.
