Winter holiday fun for all!
It’s fantastic, it’s fun, it’s for everyone and it’s almost here! It’s the Great Grand Rumpus! This July school holidays young people, families and the community are invited to let your imagination run wild in a wonderful world of hidden stories, adventures and workshops at The Edge at the State Library of Queensland (SLQ).
On soon: from 30 June to 15 July from 10 am – 3 pm.
In previous workshops, children and families were invited to dream big and describe imaginary worlds that could become The Great and Grand Rumpus. Student and community design and fabrication teams are now racing against the clock creating an out of this world community designed play based space built to scale from kids’ stories and ideas of a magical world

Enter the fun of this upside down world and meet the snot-burping monster, developed by Diane, George and Markus; Lady Meg Wittica Bird (collector of unheard stories) imagined by Priya (4) and Ethan (8); Lollipop Trees imagined by Iris (4),Troll fairies (designed by Briana) and be part of the ongoing creation of the Rumpus through creative workshops.

There’s plenty to get your teeth into with free workshops including Audio Rumpus, Video Rumpus with the opportunity to play and program lights and sound and Hack The Evening in the Fabrication Lab (SLQ) with power tools and soldering irons and way more!
There’s even more fun at the Story Lab workshops with STEAM based adventures including: Virtual Reality Club, Capturing 360° Perspectives and; Duct Tape Island. Or be part of the Lifestyle Family workshops. Keep busy these holidays and have fun with all the family.
