Meet our Lifestyle ambassador Nicole Gibson

Nicole Gibson

Our Lifestyle ambassador Nicole Gibson is an author, a recipient of a Pride of Australia Medal and recently completed three terms as the youngest Commonwealth Commissioner for Mental Health.

Hear firsthand from Nicole about her journey so far:

“Learning to love yourself is a journey. Most things around you are selling you into believing that you’re not whole, worthy and most definitely not loveable as you are. I’m here to let you know that this is the biggest lie you’ve even been told. You’re perfect, exactly as you are. You just don’t know it yet.

I’ve always believed that the quality of our life is determined by the quality of questions we’re asking. Are your questions a little bit tainted in mediocrity, or limited by a shackled perception, or perhaps even muddled by feelings of meaninglessness?

A mentor once said to me ‘the longest journey ever walked is the fifteen inches from the head to the heart.’ Changing our internal worlds is the only way to change the world external to us. The heart holds a roadmap. Your blueprint is already inside of you; your purpose, your talents, your capacity, your potential; it’s all there. You just need to listen closely for it to unlock itself.

On the other side of fear is love, on the other side of judgement is curiosity.” – Nicole Gibson

More about Lifestyle: a sunshine state of mind:

Lifestyle: a sunshine state of mind explores how we live, work and play in an ever changing Queensland. Lifestyle aims to open up debate, challenge stereotypes, explore the unspoken and acknowledge that our lives revolve around a diversity of perspectives. To help achieve this, a group of nine Program Ambassadors were selected. They collectively form a diverse set of voices reflective of the many different lifestyles, cultures and values of the Queensland community. Each of these Ambassadors has a strong connection to Queensland and has inspiring stories across a broad range of lifestyle topics.

For more information on our Ambassadors and the Lifestyle: a sunshine state of mind exhibition, visit us in person at State Library of Queensland or online.
