Mal Meninga visit

This week, Queensland Library Foundation welcomed one of Queensland’s living treasures, Mr Mal Meninga AM, Head of Performance and Culture at the Gold Coast Titans, and rugby league legend.

Mal shared stories of his family’s South Sea Islander heritage with long-term donors, corporate partners, President’s 100 Circle donors and new friends. He also took time for a personal tour of the Plantation Voices exhibition (closing Sunday 8 September) with Vicki McDonald, State Librarian and Chief Executive Officer.

Mal talked guests through his experience on the SBS series Who Do You Think You Are? where he traveled back to the Vanuatu island of Tanna and the remote village of Lowital to discover his ancestry.

With mystery surrounding his family’s arrival in Australia and the brutality they faced in Queensland’s cane fields, Mal shared his story candidly and honestly to an appreciative audience.

The President’s 100 Circle is a group of engaged and loyal donors who contribute an annual donation to enable State Library to plan for the future and address urgent funding needs, helping us to collect, preserve and share Queensland’s important heritage and culture.

President’s 100 Circle donors are encouraged to learn more about State Library through invitations to events and presentations, and through networking with Foundation Councillors, State Library executives, other donors and friends.

If you would like to know more about the President’s 100 Circle please email foundation@slq.qld.gov.au or call 3840 7865.
